Prototype Description:
Featuring all new tooling, accurate dimensions and many roadname specific details, the WalthersMainline SD70/SD70M and SD75I locomotives are sure to become the favorite motive power on many modern-era HO scale railroads. This new run marks the debut of the SD70 “Spartan Cab” and some SD70M commemorative paint schemes to the WalthersMainline roster. The prototypes for these models were first built in the early 1990s by the Electro Motive Division. With some examples still going strong today, the 4,000-hp SD70M is a hardworking thoroughbred of 21st century railroading. It remains part of the backbone of many class I railroad fleets. The SD70M variant features a wide North American style safety cab, while the 4,300 hp SD75I an isolated or WhisperCab for added crew comfort denoted by the prominent gasket between the nose and cab.
